The Japanese prepare mochi for New Year, by pounding glutinous rice with a huge pestle, and in an equally huge mortar. This step of the preparation is a real traditional ceremony people call mochitsuki.
The Consulate General of Japan in Marseille invites you to attend a demonstration of mochitsuki on the Shiroi Stage (more about the new stage names here). Those in the audience who wish to give a try at pounding the rice will be invited to come up on stage at the end of the demonstration.
